We had two days that were 55º and it was awesome! Then I woke up to snow. It's cold again (though thankfully not as cold as last week).

Tough and Fun Weekend
This weekend was quite crazy! I'm going to include Friday as part of the weekend and start from there. Friday morning I woke up and studied for my final and my anatomy practical. At 3pm I went to school to take my anatomy practical and I passed it woo hoo! After the practical I took some break and then studied until after midnight. So fun.
Saturday morning I woke up and studied again, surprise surprise. Just after noon I headed to the pool for our first water polo tournament of the season! Our first game was against Notre Dame and we won in sudden death overtime. In between games I found a table and chair on the pool deck and studied some more while my teammates watched our B team play. Our next game was against Lindenwood and we won again and then I studied again for a bit and then watched some of the B team game when my brain got tired. Our final game of the night was against Grand Valley State and we won again, and you know what I did after? I went home and ate dinner! Gotcha :) After dinner though I did study more before bed. I haven't studied so much in my life, but these biochem pathways require so much time to learn!
This morning I woke up and headed straight to the pool for our final game against Michigan State. We won again and I had a good game when I was in with two goals and a sweet 6 on 5 shot block! We won again and took the team picture below, and then I went home and studied for hours and hours since I had to take my final tonight. Around 9pm I finally went to school and took my final and passed the sequence! Yay for finally being done with GI, but since I finished my final so late I don't get any break between sequences. Oh well.
On a different note there was a ton of snow tonight that I didn't expect. I haven't seen it get so deep so quickly here yet. My car did not enjoy that at all! The snow eventually turned to rain but it was below freezing so my car had lots of thin ice on it, but luckily I bought an ice scrapper earlier this week! I even rolled down my window and it looked like it was still up for a few seconds before the ice sheet fell out. So cool. Anyways I don't plan to drive in that weather anytime soon if I can avoid it. I hope it stops raining because my jacket for the cold isn't the same jacket I wear for rain and my rain coat isn't warm. So complicated. Anyways, off to sleep now to get ready for a new week.

My favorite blog
I love looking at this blog for new recipe ideas. I may not make the recipes all that often, but it's so great to see different things that I can think about making someday. The blog compiles recipes from tons of blogs throughout the internet and always finds wonderful things. So if you want to learn some cool new things to do with food, check out Taste Spotting! Today I'm bookmarking the chocolate chip banana cupcakes with cinnamon buttercream frosting! Yummm!

Finals
It is officially finals time again, this time for the GI/Liver sequence. Tomorrow is my practical and I will take the written final sometime before Sunday night. So I pretty much don't have time to write for now (also because it's midnight and I have a few things to do before bed). Wish me luck!

COLD
This morning I woke up to an awesome -8ºF outside (yes, negative 8). My first subzero weather! Luckily it was up to 4ºF by the time I had to walk to school for our patient presentation. It's really cold out basically.

Driving in snow
This morning I woke up still sick, but I had an appointment to go to for the Prenatal Care Project that I'm participating in, so I powered through and got out of bed. I started getting ready and opened my window to find that it had snowed overnight and it was still snowing. Of course it would snow on the day I need to drive 30 minutes to another town in Michigan before I have ever had a chance to learn how to drive in the snow.
I finished getting dressed and made my way to the car. I don't think I have ever driven so slowly in my life, and I didn't care at all about what the other cars around me thought. I figured that my California plates might save me a little from people getting mad. I had one intersection where my car wouldn't stop until I was in the middle, but luckily the other car at the intersection was nice and gave me the "it's okay" signal.
Overall I made it there and back with no problems, though I need to get a snow brush and ice scrapper still. My glove had to suffice as the snow brush after the appointment this morning, but luckily it was easy to brush off and the defroster quickly did the rest.
After I got home I felt worse and so I have basically been sitting at home trying to get some work done. I think I'm going to stay home from practice tonight and try to get better so I don't get worse before my final this weekend and my tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
In other news, research is stressful and I am trying to determine if it is worth feeling so miserable for. To be determined still.

Ski Weekend
This weekend I went up to Northern Michigan to go to Boyne Mountain with some of my friends. We left on Friday and I just came home tonight. I had a chance to ski all day yesterday, which was a lot of fun! It's the first time I've ever skied outside of Tahoe, which was weird, but still good. I lucked out with the conditions because it wasn't icy yesterday! Last night we also walked to one of the slopes (my friends cabin is right off some of the slopes) and we walked all the way up one run and sledded down! It was so long and crazy but really fun. Walking up the hill was hard, but I made it. It was so weird to go so long and fast in the dark without any lights! Luckily the night sky provided enough light to show me where the slope was so I didn't go into the trees. We also saw some fireworks which were really awesome.
When we woke up this morning there was a ton of fresh powder! It was beautiful. I didn't have a chance to ski today, but I played in the snow a little and we p,aged some card games and hung out. Around 3pm we headed out to drive back to Ann Arbor. The roads were not really plowed so we had to go slow for the beginning of our drive, but we made it back safely. We also stopped for dinner in this little town called Frankenmuth, which is also nicknamed "Little Bavaria." It's similar to Solvang I gather, but German instead of Danish. I am always up for German food so it was great.
When I got home I watched the end of the Ravens beating the Patriots which was awesome and then played in my inner tube water polo game, which we won 10-1! I have felt bad all day, but thanks to Afrin I can now breathe, and getting in the water actually helped as well yay.
I can't wait to watch the HarBowl in two weeks! My Niners are so close to a Super Bowl title!!! Lets all think good Niners thoughts :)

GI Week 2
This week has been unusually busy. It has been my first week of water polo season and I am definitely getting used to the schedule. I think I am figuring out what works, so thats great! Now I just need to learn how to fall asleep!
This week we learned more about the GI/Liver system. Fun times. It's really hard to speak because every time you refer to something as "shit" you have to ensure that you weren't trying to be "punny."
Anyways, I did some cool stuff this week. I went to an OR walkthrough in the Old Mott Children's Hospital. We got to do a little mock surgery prep where we learned how to scrub in and gown, we did a mock OR simulation that was really lax but fun, and we did some suture practice. This was through an interest group so there were only 40 people between the M1 and M2 class who go to go, but it was fun.
Practice has also been going well. We have done a lot of leg work and I am so sore! Lunges, wall sits, and eggbeater workout withs weight belts have been some of the fun times I have gotten to experience this week. We have our first tournament next weekend and it is here, so that should be fun! We are splitting into and A team and a B team, and they haven't told us who is on each one yet, so I don't know who I'm playing against for sure but I am excited to play again nonetheless.
Now I must clean my apartment and get down my Christmas decorations so I can film part of the Second Look Weekend video in my place tomorrow. I am doing a streaming scene, which is ironic since I rarely ever stream. I did stream today though for the first time this year and it was glorious because I actually got to sleep in and didn't feel like death all day long woo hoo!!

Quizzed
The first quiz on 2013 is over and I passed! We are now 1/3 of the way through the GI/Liver sequence. This weekend was really not all that exciting. I studied a bit yesterday before going to a team meeting for water polo where we talked about some things having to do with this season. After the meeting we went to Crisler Arena (where the basketball team plays) to clean up after the gymnastics meet. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Haha. We had to pick up the trash, sweep, and spot mop the arena which isn't all that great, but the team gets $250 for doing it, which brings down dues a bit. Thank goodness we have a smart captain who signed up up to clean up after gymnastics instead of basketball, because the entire top section of Crisler is closed for gymnastics meets and less people go, meaning less crap left behind by messy sport going patrons. After that I just want home and watched the 49ers-Packers playoff game, which ended quite well for my Niners!
Today I woke up and did some stuff online for a bit before heading to school to study for my quiz. I studied for a few hours and then took my quiz. Like I said before I passed yay. After the quiz I just went home and watched a bit more football. The Falcons-Seahawks game was quite crazy, and I'm sad the Seahawks lost it, but I guess were just going to have to go to Atlanta and push 'em around in their house instead of getting a Carrol-Harbaugh showdown at home. Soon I am going to get a massage to try to alleviate some of the pain in my neck/shoulder that keeps getting worse. Hopefully it's a good one! And Go Houston... I hate the Pats!

Photo Canvases
I finally ordered some photo canvases with my Amazon Local Deals that I bought last spring! I can't wait until they are all made and up on my walls! I spent time this morning using photoshop online to enhance the photos and I think they came out really well! I even got rid of something in a photo and photoshopped it to make it look like it wasn't there! Yay for learning photoshop! Here are the pictures I chose:

Thank Goodness for the Weekend
The last few days have been a little stressful. Someone signed up to stay with me for their interview on Wednesday for Thursday night, which was a bit of a shock, but it was fine. What I wasn't so happy about was she decided she was staying an extra night and didn't even ask, she just stayed. I just don't get that. Otherwise I'm just a little tired so I'm taking an easy night and studying for my quiz tomorrow. That's really all. Oh and I went to Korean food tonight. Bul ko gi as usual. Yumm.

Blonde Joke
I read a good blonde joke (an intelligent one this time yay!) on Facebook today and I thought it was really clever. Enjoy:
A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the Loan officer. She says she's going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000.
The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blonde hands over the keys to a new Mercedes Benz SL 500.
The car is parked on the street in front of the bank, she has the title and everything checks out. The bank agrees to accept the car collateral for the loan.
The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the blonde for using a $110,000 Benz a collateral against a $5,000 loan.
An employee of the bank then proceeds to drive the Benz into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the blonde returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41.
The loan officer says, "Miss, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found out that you are a multimillionaire.
What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5000?"
The blonde replies, "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"

Back in Michigan
First off, a huge Happy Birthday to my mom! Wish I could be there to celebrate with you. Love you!
Well, I am back in Michigan and boy is it cold. It is supposed to warm up a bit this week though and the weather app says it will be 50º on Saturday (though it will also be raining so that stinks). My trip back here was fine. I was an hour delayed out of Salt Lake City on my layover due to mechanical problems, but I got to Detroit with few problems otherwise and took a cab back to my apartment since there is no other form of transportation to Ann Arbor possible from the airport at midnight. There is a lot of snow on the ground here, which is very different than when I left, but pretty cool.
Yesterday I slept in (oops, so much for time zone adjustment) and then spent the day unpacking (yes I am already unpacked, it's a miracle!) and getting things ready to start school again. I decided to set up my iPad to try and take my notes on it instead of on paper this sequence, so I downloaded Notability and got everything ready to do that. I got to the grocery store and stocked up on some food that isn't dry pasta and then went to a homemade pizza party at my friend's place (we do that periodically just for fun, and it really is fun!).
Today it was back to class to begin the GI/Liver sequence. I made it to class despite my horrendous time attempting to fall asleep last night (still not adjusted to the time zone) and was successful taking notes on my iPad! It was nice to see everyone again, and surprisingly my brain is way more "on" than it was after coming back from Thanksgiving break. I think it is because this time we came back to a new sequence instead of coming back into the final week of one where we had to study for a huge anatomy practical and a sequence final. Coming back into day 1 of a new class was much easier. Besides class, not much is new out here. Water polo starts Wednesday night and our first tournament is a home tournament in just three weeks! I'm pretty excited!
That's all for now. Off to make dinner, study anatomy for tomorrow, and watch the National Championship game! It's a battle between two evils, so I must decide which is the lesser of the two evils to cheer for. I'm thinking I want the SEC streak to end more than I hate Notre Dame so I may cheer for the Irish as much as it pains me. They beat both Michigan and Stanford this year, so if they win our best loss is better if that makes sense. At least Stanford won the Rose Bowl this season!!

Time at home is coming to an end
Today is my last full day at home and I can't believe how fast it has come! This week began with a trip to SoCal for the Rose Bowl, where I saw a glorious Stanford win over Wisconsin. The rest of the week was driving, lounging around, and the dentist! How it got to be Friday so quickly I do not know, but I have had a wonderful two weeks back in California with my family. Tomorrow it is back to Michigan and back to learning. GI and Liver is coming up starting Monday. I'm going to miss having nothing to do so much!
