On to EM

Today I started my Emergency Medicine rotation. It is my last required rotation of medical school!! Today in orientation I had to let someone poke me with an IV, and I did NOT enjoy it. I had to voluntarily lay on the floor after because I felt very nauseous. The person I was paired with couldn't take the pain and I didn't even really end up getting to practice on my own. Oh well. Hopefully this rotation is okay, though I must say I am looking forward to the 15 weeks off of any real rotations that follows this, plus the 4 weeks of travel and working in Peru after that! Luckily in this rotation I have a mid rotation weekend in CA and I end the rotation with a week in San Diego with my dad. Fun times!!

Done with MFM

I finished my last sub internship rotation! So exciting! It was a very fun month and I quite enjoyed it. Labor and delivery is a pretty cool unit I must say. I still occasionally think I would be an awesome OB doc, but I will be awesome in the ORs too. The coolest part of the rotation was delivering a baby on my own with my teammate from college standing behind me as the resident. Awesome circumstances.

Labor and Delivery Days Begin

Today I started day shifts on labor and delivery. It was a good day, though we had an emergent c-section. I got to close the fascia layer which was pretty cool. I feel awful for the situation the woman was put in, hopefully she and baby do okay. Now I'm working on ERAS for tomorrow. So tired!

Done with Nights!

I have now completed my two weeks of night! Woo hoo! I like the night shift, but 14 hour shifts and never having time to do anything more than sleep is quite difficult. I am happy to re-enter the normal world and have some actual time to do some fun things (or just relax, read, watch tv, etc). After my last night shift we had a team breakfast downtown, which was really fun, and then I slept a lot as usual. I'm still struggling to get back on that normal sleep schedule. It's always difficult for me to switch back, so hopefully I can stay up until a normal bed time tonight.

Yesterday Poppy was in town and the two of us went to the football game, which we won 35-7. Oregon State scored within 2 minutes and made us all really nervous since they looked so good, but after the first quarter it was all Michigan and it was an awesome home debut for Harbaugh. My mom texted me about the Cal game and how San Diego State scored quickly and I told her not to worry because the Michigan game started the same way, and wouldn't you know it went EXACTLY the same and Cal won 35-7 too! Stanford almost made it 3/3, but they only won 31-7. Overall a great football day :)

Today Molly and I went to the rock climbing gym this morning and then I finally got some groceries. Molly has informed me that I have to make a list of everything I bought and check off when I eat everything so I don't waste it, haha. Not going to happen. Now I just have to work on ERAS since I have to submit on Tuesday! Yikes!

So I've Been a Bad Blogger

So, I've been absolutely horrible at blogging of late. Thats what happens when you work a lot and have residency applications to fill out! I finished up my rotation in LA and came back to Michigan to start a month of labor and delivery. Last week and this week I have been and continue to be on nights. They are long shifts, which means I have very very little time off (only enough to sleep really), but at least they are fun. I enjoy OB, which is nice. After this week it is back to the schedule of a normal human being, and also hopefully a lot more rest!!
