This morning we woke up me left bright and early to drive to Entebbe to see the chimpanzees and the Ngamba Island chimp sanctuary. We got on the boat to the island in Entebbe and took a nice ride out to the island in Lake Victoria. The boat took around an hour and we crossed the equator, so I spent today in both summer and winter! When we got to the chimp island we had a little talk about the rescued chimps there and then we got to see there 11am feeding. All the chimps know when they are going to be feed without even being called and its awesome so see so many at once. We also got a little tour of the facilities, which were pretty small. There were only a handful of people that came on our boat and we were the only ones there, so that was nice. We were on the island for a few hours (though we were only seeing the chimps for a small portion of that) and then we took the boat back to Entebbe and back to summer.
After Ngamba we went to lunch at a hotel called The Gateway and all had Pad Thai. It was pretty delicious and we heard some crazy stories from our driver about his past. He's don't some pretty cool and scary things. We also learned a little bit about the genocide that happened in Rwanda, which was really interesting. After lunch we bought a new soccer ball for the local kids and some jackfruit to try and then headed back to the place we are staying. When we got here we went to watch the local kids play soccer and hung out with them a bit. There was a really cute, and really poor girl named Karen who really liked us and we gave her a bottle of water. A lot of the kids would wave and then run away laughing, but many of them were really awesome. During the game the Ugandan national soccer team also beat Angola in a World Cup qualifying match which was exciting.
After the soccer we had some dinner and chatted for a while. I then got some of my things a little more organized and then chatted with Riba for a bit while I went to get a bottle of water from the main house. Now it's bed time again and it's off to Mbale tomorrow! I'll miss this place and its amazing accommodations!
