Ålesund

Today our boat was docked in the city of Ålesund. It is a quite beautiful city located amongst the fjords and the junction of the Atlantic and North Sea. There are quite a few islands in the Ålesund area, and that is exactly how we spent our morning. We woke up and had a quick breakfast before meeting our tour in the theater. We then got off the boat and hopped on the bus for our tour of the outer islands. The islands are super cute and really beautiful. We saw an old church that was 900 years old called the Giske Church after a wealthily family on the island. The church uis made of marble, but has been covered in plaster to protect the marble from the elements since it is near the sea. You would never know of its structural materials if you werent told, though they did leave two small exposed pieces so you can see the marble a tiny bit. After the church we headed to a lighthouse that looked over the islands and the seas. The views from the top were amazing and it was really lovely to see. We then headed to the top of the mountain in the main part of Ålesund were we again had some spectacular view points! Overall it is such a beautiful place surrounded by water and mountains.

After our tour we had lunch at the Windjammer (buffet on board) and then headed back out to walk around town. We explored a bit and did some shopping, even finding a sailing shop that we liked some things at, but didn't buy anything from. I got a few more kitchen gadgets because I cant help myself, and I found something I've been wanting to get for a while, but since it ships from France the shipping has ben too expensive online, so that was a win! We walked around for a few hours, but the town isn't too large and we saw most things we wanted to by 4pm (also everything closes at 4pm so theres nothing else to do!).

We headed back to the ship and took a rest, which was really nice. I ended up taking a nice bath to "marinate by muscles" as mom's masseuse said she should do, and then we got ready for dinner. We had dinner at Giovanni's, which is a specialty Italian restaurant onboard. It was really yummy, but we definitely ate too much! After dinner we caught the end of the show for the night and now we are enjoying the views from our stateroom since pretty much all our sailing to Geiranger is within the fjords and it is simply beautiful and very impressive! We may go to a onboard game show in a bit, but otherwise its just about bed time!
