This morning we had our last breakfast buffet and our tour guide and driver for the day met us at our hotel to take us on an adventure to Sigulda. The drive out was nice and we got to see some more of Riga as well as the forests. Our first stop was to take a look at the valley where there was a small ski slope for the winter and a ropes course for the summer time. We also saw the bobsled training track nearby which looked like a lot of fun. The first major historical site of the day was Sigulda castle. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and the building itself was gorgeous. There was a second castle called Krimulda castle at the same site that was more of a ruin than the still functional Sigulda castle (now a government building), but still very beautiful. I also got a beautiful painting for my house! Hopefully I get it home okay!
After the castle we went to a different ski area that sets up for a LOT of summer adventures like ropes courses, summer sledding, zip lines, and a downhill tobaggon ride! I did the toboggan and it was super fun! We then saw some awesome natural caves and then visited Turaida Castle. Turaida had a much larger grounds with some museums, a beautiful small church, and some really interesting tales. The castle itself was been restored in red brick and looks really cool! The weather all day was really lovely as well, so the whole day was just really nice.
After Turaida we went back to Sigulda Castle to pick up my painting in some protective wrapping for the plane. We then stopped for a traditional Latvian lunch, some pasta with meat, and small salad, and a soup, and then drove back to Riga. When we got back we rested a bit and then walked around Riga more. We did a little shopping, and then went to the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija to see the views from the Sky Bar on the 26th floor. We only planned to look, but decided to stay for a drink and small cheese plate. Only problem was the cheese plate was enormous! It basically was so big we made it our dinner because we were so full afterwards. Cheese for dinner... Grandpa would have loved it haha. The views of the city were amazing by the way!!
After the Sky Bar we walked back through town to the hotel. We tried to find a bag, but everything was closed since it was almost 9pm. We are now just chilling in the room, having some ice cream, and packing! Also watching E! since it's actually in English. See you tomorrow USA!
