Today was my last full day in Slovenia. I have really enjoyed my time here despite the dreary weather, and I think I will definitely have to make a return trip here someday! This morning I tried to sleep in a little, but I still woke up before 9am. That was probably due to the fact that I was asleep by 11:15pm last night. That's a lot of sleep time, and it was much needed! I lounged around for a while, ate the bread and leftover pork I took from dinner last night, and got some things together to take to the post office to send home.
I set off on my post office adventure around 11:30am, and so began a string of not so fun bad luck things for the day. The lady at the post office was not so helpful and a little scary, so figuring out how to send my things was quite a task. Luckily there was another lady who was working on something else that turned out to be helpful. Eventually I got all the things I no longer wanted to carry into a box and headed for California. Only cost about €59 eek! Oh well, that's 10+lbs I don't have to carry on my back anymore at least. Mom, Dad, and Molly: look for that to arrive in a week or two.
After the post office I went to the supermarket to get something to eat for lunch. The checkout lady was super condescending, told me that 5+5=10 while looking at my money (no shit, I can count!), and then mutterd something that was clearly about me in Slovenian. Ugh, so frustrating. I was just trying to give her exact change and I didn't have another 10 cent coin. Boo. Anyways I got my food and went to the hostel to make some simple pasta with pesto, and saved half for dinner later. While eating I bit my lip really hard and it started bleeding, ouch! I continued to eat and then I bit it again even harder. This time is was so bad that some tears came through that I couldn't fight back. Not fun.
Luckily I wasn't in the mood to mope, and I got my things together because it was time to go canyoning! The five Irish that I went on my adventure with yesterday were on my trip again and we set out to the canyon with Canyoning Bob. The group was a bit bigger than expected (the six of us plus five others), so there was a lot of waiting involved at each part of the canyon, but it was still a good time. I had some trouble with calf cramps when walking up hill to the start, but I made it (just barely). We did one jump, a few slides, a short zip line, and some repelling. It was a pretty good time, though I wish we had gotten to go to the canyon with more (and bigger) jumps. Some other time I guess.
After canyoning I was able to take a nice shower and eat some dinner. I also did a little laundry, though the dryer somehow didn't work, so I'm praying that my things will dry ob the line before I have to pack them in the morning! I tried to set out to get the Slovenian cream cake that is supposed to be amazing, but the dry sky did not last and I got stuck in a downpour halfway there. I finally decided to head back towards the hostel (while still getting soaked) to go to a place that was closer. I got there 5 minutes after closing. Figures, seeing how everything has gone today! So all in all there were some not so great parts of the day, but also some great times. Can't really complain much about life right now, cause overall it's pretty awesome!
(sorry, couldn't bring my camera or my phone in the canyon so couldn't get any photos today)
