This morning we slept in a bit since the altitude kicked out butts in terms of energy. Luckily no one has gotten altitude sickness, though I must say the acetazolomide has definitely given me a little tingling in my finger tips from time to time. Otherwise it's worked like a charm. I got up a bit earlier that Caitlin and Paige, but they were only out of bed about 40 minutes later. We had some breakfast and then tried to decide what to do for the day.
We knew we wanted to go up to Saqsaywaman, which is an Inca site in Cusco. We decided to check out the bungy jumping place just to see since it was on our block, so I ran down to check on times and it was pretty easy to book. When I got back we decided we would go right then, so we got dressed and headed to the office to book and left right then. We took a taxi (included in our ticket) for about 11km to the site. There was also a Brazilian man with us who was doing the slingshot. When we got there we checked in and got our stuff put away in a locker. We then had to run three short laps and do a bunch of exercises to warm up since the people told us to. I went first, so I got all suited up in the many harnesses and got ready to head up. This one has the platform you jump from rise into the air while you're in it and goes up 122 meters (400 feet). It is a little scary, especially since it was three time higher than my bungy in New Zealand, but once you jump it's so much fun! I definitely had a bit more whiplash this time around (not too hard since I had none last time) but it was fine.
After jumping I watched and took pictures and video for Paige and then Caitlin, and then for the Brazilian doing the sling shot. They all had fun too and we all decided to get our pictures and videos since they were pretty good. We then got back in the taxi and rode back into Cusco. Oh, we also got a shirt included in our jump price!
Once back at the hostel we tested for a while and then decided to go out for lunch at Mr. Soup, but it was closed so we found a different random restaurant where I had corn soup, grilled chicken, and a chocolate crepe. We then checked in for our tour tomorrow and came back to the hotel to get ready for Saqsaywaman.
We decided to walk up, which ended up being quite hard in the altitude since it is very uphill. We also got caught in a rainstorm and my shoes and jeans got incredibly wet. After the rain we also picked up a dog friend, who followed us all the way to the top. I was not having an easy time of it, but I made it. The site itself was pretty cool, and definitely impressive, especially since many of the stones are enormous, with one weighing in at 300 tons! We also saw a bunch of llamas and amazing views of Cusco from really high up. All the photos are on my DSLR, so I'll have to post those later.
The hike down was much easier and we stopped for Thai food on the way down. I had green curry and it was yummy! We then came back to the hostel to change out of our wet clothes. The three of us and the girl from Indiana and the girl form England tried to go get brownies at the chocolate museum, but the cafe was closed, so we went to a different place and got dessert. I had a mocha cake that was pretty good.
After dessert we tried to find Paige's jacket that she left somewhere yesterday, but she didn't remember where the place was, so instead we looked at some tourist shops, went to the ATM, and then came back to the hostel. I showered and then we packed for the tour and hung out for a bit. Now I'm going to get ready for bed because I'm beat!
PS, the Internet made my life difficult and it took me a half hour to get the post uploaded. You're welcome.
Thank you - we very much appreciate getting to read about your day! Hope you continue to have a super time.
