Confused as to why I'm writing about home today? It only seems that way!
Today our clinic was in the village of San Francisco, the village by the river instead of the city by the bay. Tomorrow half the group will go to a village called San Jose, so they'll be hitting up more Bay Area gems! San Francisco is a cute village that was about an hour and a half boat ride back towards Nauta, where we came from yesterday. The village is quite near where the official Amazon River begins. The ride there was nice, but uneventful. I read a little and took in the Amazon scenery.
When we arrived we had to wait for clinic to finish being set up, but then got on our way. I work with a different resident today and she was really nice to work with. We saw some different cases from the other clinics including some wounds and hemorrhoids, and also a lot of similar things like MSK back pain, dehydration, parasites, and viral illnesses. Lunch was chicken, rice, beans, salad (they made sure one had no mayo!), and of course my favorite plantains.

Welcome to San Francisco, the village by the river

Our part of the clinic
After clinic the people in the village all brought their crafts to sell and trade. I bought a small basket/platter with a toucan and a small toucan handicraft, and traded some tshirts for a larger basket/platter with two macaws. It was really awesome. After trading was over we took a short hike to near the home of one of the women we saw in clinic and who made the basket with the macaws to see her pets, aka the coolest pets ever! I was uncontrollably excited through the whole walk and there was no disappointment! We got the and saw her two small parrots (one the size of a large parakeet), and he super cute little monkey named Dorita. I got to hold Dorita, who was a little wary of us which made it a little frightening, but it was awesome. She was really quite sweet overall. Then came Teresita, her freaking sloth! Holy crap it was amazing. She brought her over and I immediately got to hug her and cuddle her and she was the greatest. She is one year old and so adorable and sweet with the cutest little face you ever saw. I could have stayed with her for a really long time. I at least got two chances to hold her and it was so amazing!
After meeting the lovely animals of San Francisco it was time to head bcc to Yacamama so we had a little daylight once we got back and didn't end up on the river at night. Stephanie, Lindsey, and I sat on the roof of the boat for the ride and the view was amazing. No influence of humans as far as the eye could see for good portions of the trip. We even saw more dolphins, including the Amazon pink dolphin! A few were lighter link but one that we saw was super bright pink, which was really neat to see. We also saw some birds along the way that were pretty, including one that was bright yellow and black.
When we got back we took quick showers and then did the stats for the day. Caitlin and I did a ton of the stats work, which took a long time, but at least it's done. Dinner was a little late since we got back so late, but it was totally fine by me. We had a carb fest of rice, yucca, pasta, and reds sauce and salad. No plantains tonight. After dinner was over we played poker and then mafia, which Caitlin and I won as the mafia. The generator turned off before the end of the game, so we finished by headlamp and then went to our cabins fm to get ready for bed. After another thorough bug checks where some spiders were found, we brushed our teeth and headed for bed. The two boys cabins have both found ginormous spiders, so I'm hoping one doesn't turn up here. Tomorrow is another clinic day, and the first where the group will split in two. For now it's a little reading and then off to sleep. Hoping I form sweat as much as last night!
