Punchana Clinic Day

Today was our second clinic in the suburb of Punchana. We left the AP office around 8:30 and took a 15 minute motocarro ride to the town. The clinic was in the local school and it was HOT! I have never sweat so much for so long. On top of it the bathroom was a little suspect so drinking lots of water was super fun. We mostly sweat it all out anyways. I had two electrolyte tabs to help with the excessive sweating, and the grapefruit Fizz brand tabs I brought with me are delicious.

I'm clinic we saw more of the same, though I saw fewer kids today. I worked with one of the residents on the trip and it went pretty well. Lunch was delicious again, with a beef stew, potatoes, salad, rice, maduros, and passion fruit juice. After clinic we started doing the stats for the day while we were waiting to leave to get a head start, which worked out great. We left on the motocarros and finished up the stats at the office. I rose back with the founder of AP and she used to have a pet rat too! We also talked about the pet deer she used to have here in Iquitos, which sounded cool.

After finishing the stats we came back to the hotel and packed since we had to bring out bags back to the office. They will take our heavy luggage to the jungle tomorrow and we will head there on Thursday. It's pretty nice that we don't have to deal with out suitcases. It was raining on the walk to the office, so I fashioned a rain cover for my bag out of a trash bag and it worked great!

We all met when we brought our bags to the office and then went to dinner at Amaon Bistro. I had acaprese sandwich with ham and some Sprite which all hit the spot. The fish I've been having here has probably been better, but overall a delicious meal (also the sandwich was half the price of the fish tonight). After dinner we got some water at the grocery store and now we're back at the hotel. No clinic tomorrow, but we will learn about traditional medicine instead.

  1. sounds like a very interesting time? What do you get to do? Do you see patients with someone else - or on your own? Just curious. Windows almost complete - now contemplating paint and window coverings. Im tired of all of it. Blu and Lemon are doing fine.
