Porto Miguel

This morning we woke up and had breakfast again as usual. My mornings aren't interesting to hear about sorry. Today was again pancakes with fried eggs, papaya, bread, and bananas. After eating they split the group in two to go to Porto Miguel and Nuevo Loretto, and I was assigned to Porto Miguel. On our way to the clinic we all got little glitter heart stickers to wear for Valentine's Day, which was fun. I worked with Miguel and an attending today, and it was another great day. I saw a lot of patients, and actually probably saw the most at our site today since I saw at least eight patients after everyone else was done just because I was around when a few more patients arrived on multiple occasions. The last poor little boy had been punch at school and had a huge swollen eye, but was overall okay.

For lunch in Porto Miguel Nancy made Lomo Saltado, which is a typical Peruvian dish that is basically a stir fry with tomatoes, bell peppers, onion, beef, and french fries. Quite interesting, but also delicious. We of course also had the accompanying rice, yucca, salad and lentils with passion fruit (maracuya) juice. Yummy. We at over an hour before the other group since they said they would arrive at 1PM, but didn't actually arrive until well after 2PM. We sadly didn't get to trade today, but we have two more villages where we will have clinics still, so hopefully I can trade the rest of my stuff away. While waiting to leave Porto Miguel we finished most of the stats for the village, and completed them on the short boat ride back to the lodge.

Once back at the lodge I grabbed my iPad and read in the hammock room for a bit before falling asleep for a lovely nap. After napping I woke up and went to the main area where we hung out and of course played more games. There were also some things given to the group as gifts by the Nuevo Loretto village that we got to choose from, which was cool. I got a really pretty basket and an awesome bracelet. I played Egyptian rat screw with a group and then learned a Peruvian game called Casino that was a bit complicated and confusing at first, but was still fun once we all got it. For dinner we had a chicken dish with potatoes, and of course rice, yucca, and salad. I just realized I had no plaintains today, sad. I'm sure I'll have plenty more before I go. After dinner we played more casino and then had a huge game of heads up. Everyone stayed up much later since we have the day off tomorrow! I'm sure I'm forgetting to write about plenty of things in here, and I know my writing sucks, so sorry, but hopefully you're still enjoying reading about my days, however similar they may be to one another.
