Out to the Village

Today I woke up, ate breakfast and said goodbye to Joan as she left Tororo. Phidelis told me to be ready by 11am because I was going to a burial with him. I was not too exited to have to attend such a sad function on one of my last full days here, but he wouldn't really take no for an answer so I got ready and was sitting on the porch by 11am.

Eleven came and went and I was still sitting outside. He ended up coming around 11:50am and we went out to the village. The burial itself seemed nice though we didn't see much of it because we were sitting in a place with the family of the deceased where we couldn't even see the ceremony. The deceased was the daughter of the brother of a friend of Phidelis and she was a year younger than me. so sad. It was alright, though I was tired and hungry and did not want to eat the offals they were serving. I watched as people devoured cow intestines, aorta, stomach, etc and it was GROSS! We sat around there for a few hours before moving to one of the homes and they basically forced me to eat, so I had a plate of rice. After the burial we drove back and stopped to say hi to Emma's wife and daughter on the way since they live right on the main road between Tororo and Mbale at the five mile trading center and we were coming from six mile trading center.

One we got back into town we went to pick up the GHU car at Caesar's place and we picked up Phidelis's wife and two youngest kids Emma and Maria. We went to pick up some clothes for them at their home and then drove them out to the village his wife grew up in. I met her parents and they gave me an insane amount of g nuts and two passions fruits and now my entire room smells like g nuts. After dropping them off and spending a few minutes there w headed out, which really meant driving to Phidelis's village and having to say hi to half the people there and then stopping at his sisters house (which I didn't mind because it was only her and baby Monica and not overwhelming), and then stopping at his brothers village to hang out for a bit where I literally sat alone behind the main circle and everyone was speaking Jopadhola.

We eventually got back on the road and I was dropped off at the guesthouse where I showered and ate my leftovers (which did not taste so good reheated). They still had no bananas so I had a Fanta to get something tasty and sweet in my mouth after the not so yummy left overs and then went to my room and watched a movie. That's about all. I'm super tired and tomorrow is my last full day without work in Tororo. Crazy since its only my sixth full day without work here all together since we were gone two of the five weekends I've been here! Can't believe it's now down to less than a week left in Uganda. This time next week I will be in the Westin Cape Town getting rest for my big great white adventures. Can't wait, even though I will be sad to leave the people here. Adventures await.
