Walk Till You Drop

Paris is big. And I mean really big. I guess I should be used to big cities since I lived in NYC for a few years, but I have since become accustomed to the convenience of cars and very minimal need to walk. I even have the weirdest blister of my entire life from regular tie up shoes: right on the top of my foot at the base of the big and second toe. Ouch. I think I need different shoes for walking around, but just can't being myself to look so ridiculous by wearing my Nikes with pants they definitely do not work with! That may change quite rapidly at this rate since my feet hurt so bad from walking for two days straight in my Vans.

We started out this morning trying to find a patisserie that my dad found in Bon Appeit, but it turned out they pretty much sold chocolate and macaroons; definitely no a suitable breakfast. We ended up stopping at a little cafe where I had a croissant and we made total fools of ourselves not knowing the general protocol for ordering and paying for our food. The waiter was super nice though and all was well.

After breakfast we took the metro to the Eiffel Tower, but since the line was crazy long we decided today was not the day. Instead we headed tote hop on-hop off bus tour. The tour was actually really good and we got to see a lot of Paris (though we still have many more stops we didn't hit today). We got off at Notre Dame and went inside. It was just as beautiful as I remember it from eight years ago. We grabbed lunch at a nearby shop (a baguette with butter and salami and an Orangina) and ate in a small park before hopping back on the bus tour. We then rode around for a while and took in sites like Gare de Lyon and the Bastille. I even saw a barge on the river that was an indoor swimming pool! That would be an awesome place to practice.

When we finally got off the bus your we decided to go to the Natural History Museum which was supposedly a gallery of evolution. It took us forever to finally find the building on the grounds, but we did find it eventually. It wasn't as good as I anticipated, consisting of mostly taxidermy. Oh well.

After the museum we hopped on the metro to the Bon Marché Grand Epicerie. This place makes Whole Foods look cheap! It's amazing unbelievable inside and I wish I could go there everyday (provided it wouldn't break the bank, which it most definitely would). We explored the market for a bit and then finally headed back to our hotel to rest before dinner.

We are headed to the Moulin Rouge tonight which should be a good time as long as we can both stay awake. Second day jet lag is most definitely in effect!
